Longyou South Gate Historical and Cultural Block Night Tour Project

Project overview

The Zhejiang Longyou Dananmen Historical Block is located in the southern part of the historical Longyou Ancient City, on the west bank of Lingshan River, facing the Longyou Museum and Residential Garden across the river. The planned area is about 18.96 hectares, including a core protected area of about 4.3 hectares.

The Dananmen Historical and Cultural District, as the political, economic, and cultural center of Longyou for thousands of years, is the core component of the Longyou Ancient City pattern, an important carrier of traditional cultural inheritance, and the birthplace of the rise of the Longyou Merchant Gang.

Design concept

The historical block of Dananmen is the core component of the ancient city pattern of Longyou, which has been established for more than two thousand years, and it is also the soul of Longyou’s urban development. As an important carrier of Longyou’s historical and cultural heritage, it carries the nostalgia and memories of generations of dragon tourists.

Therefore, in the design, it is necessary to respect the overall spatial pattern of the block, preserve the historical style of the block to the greatest extent possible, and inherit the value and characteristics of the block. Form an architectural complex with the style of the Ming, Qing, and Republic of China periods, and create a historical and cultural block space with an ancient charm at Dananmen.

We will take “people-oriented, cultural and tourism economy, urban competition” as the project positioning, with “Millennium Gumie · Longyou Nansheng” as the design theme, creating characteristic areas in blocks, multi-point layout, comprehensive improvement, breaking through the “one size fits all” old street style, awakening memories of different age groups, and expanding nighttime consumption time and space.

Project implementation

According to the different historical, cultural, and functional attributes, the street is divided into six major scenes: entrance reception area, West Lake scenic area, merchant cultural and commercial area, Panchi Confucian style area, county government cultural area, and water carrying alley area, forming a distinctive cultural and tourism picture of Dananmen.

At the main entrance, the horsehead wall is illuminated by 3500K wall washers under normal conditions, and 2700K small floodlights are used on the roof tiles on both sides to create a color temperature difference contrast. On holidays, the night tour of Nanmen is carried out in the form of cultural projection, with slight water ripples reflecting the tall horsehead wall, as if reflecting the riverside

The commercial and cultural commercial district is the largest area in the historical and cultural block of Dananmen, and it is also the scene that best reflects the historical style. Guiren Gate, as the entrance, is one of the key areas to be developed in this project. Similar to the construction method of the most pavilion, in addition to lighting up the building, a light strip is used to outline the top contour in the lower part of the city wall, and the bottom city wall space is highlighted to highlight a sense of stability.

In the neighborhood, considering the historical positioning of the project, excessive intervention is not made in lighting, and only lighting fixtures are arranged in the structural space of the buildings facing the street to create nostalgic memories.

The core structure of this scene is a large area of horsehead wall. In addition to wall top and roof tile lighting, element projection is carried out on the facade of the white horsehead wall as a carrier to increase the spatial atmosphere and spread the history of Dragon Quest.

The county government ruins within the block have been in use for over 680 years since the Yuan Dynasty. As an important cultural relic, small floodlights are used at the top to illuminate the roof ridge and depict the fifth facade of the building. Install floodlights under the eaves to illuminate the upper part of the first floor facade downwards, forming a rhythmic relationship of brightness, darkness, and brightness with the second floor facade.

Using projected images on the wall to present and spread the historical changes of Longyou since the establishment of the county in the Qin Dynasty.

Tiaoshui Lane is the residential area of Longyou South Gate and also the most concentrated area of existing Ming and Qing style buildings. Therefore, in lighting, the main focus is on creating a serene atmosphere, with only the west and north facades along the street serving as the main display surfaces for brightness. In other areas, only functional lighting is retained at night, lanterns are effectively utilized, and no additional streetlights are installed.
