Project overview

The Fuxing Bridge, also known as the Qianjiang Fourth Bridge, is the first double-layer double arch steel tube concrete composite tied arch bridge in Hangzhou that spans the Qiantang River. The bridge has a total length of 1376 meters and a width of 26.4 meters. The upper level has six lanes in both directions, while the middle of the lower level has a pre-set subway track. On both sides are dedicated bus lanes and bicycle and pedestrian passages. It is an important commuting route during the Hangzhou Asian Games.
Design concept

In the lighting design, while ensuring the overall landscape effect of the bridge is harmonious and unified with the natural scenery of the Qiantang River, dreamlike effects such as colorful changes and flowing water were used, such as a rainbow crossing the river, echoing the surrounding environment and forming a unique urban landscape.
Project implementation

This is a renovation and upgrading project. Before the renovation, only two large arches of the bridge were colored, while the remaining small arches were made of single color T5 pipes. High damage rate, discontinuous colors, and inability to remotely call the program. There are no lighting fixtures in the crossbeam area, and further improvement is needed to enhance the sense of structural blocks. These are all contrary to the reputation of the ‘Rainbow Bridge’.

During the renovation of Xiaogong, old lighting fixtures and deformed or detached shading boards were removed and new energy-saving LED linear lights were installed. To ensure the visual performance of the rainbow effect runs smoothly through the entire bridge, we have upgraded the lighting fixtures to simultaneously illuminate both the upper and lower sides.

In order to avoid the impact of glare from lighting fixtures on the line of sight of drivers, while also considering the viewing experience from different angles and the aesthetics of the bridge during the day, through continuous sampling, a shading plate with an aperture of 8mm and a size of 1500 * 300mm was finally selected, and the lighting fixtures were installed inside it to avoid the above problems.

To solve the problem of uneven brightness of the bridge body as a whole, multiple sets of floodlights are used to project the crossbeam area. Install a set of lighting fixtures on each platform on both sides of the bridge, and finally adjust the angles of 38 sets of floodlights until the crossbeam area is evenly lit.

To ensure consistent light color effects between new and old lighting fixtures, we carefully tested the various parameters of the original fixtures, and later unified the lamp column ratio and color coordinate data and tested the light parameters. The final effect achieved delicate color changes in the Asian Games.
